Which file should I download?

Good question!

We offer two types of boot disk images, depending on your needs. The contents of these disks are identical, so you will only need one or the other.

Automatic Disk Image
These files should be used when you just need to create a bootable floppy disk as fast as possible. You simply download the file you need, and double-click on the .exe file. You will have a boot disk in no time!

Diskette Images
These files are identical to the Automatic Disk Image, but they are cross-platform. Basically this means you can use these Diskette Images on Windows, Linux, OS X, BSD, etc.

These Diskette Images are perfect for Virtual computing using products such as VMware Player, VMware Server, VMware ESX, and Microsoft Virtual Server.

You should use the Diskette Images for a Virtual Machine.

How do I use these Automatic Disk Images?

It's easy! To use these images, download the .exe file to your PC
(don't worry it's virus free - we've checked them). Once the file has
been downloaded, simply double-click on the downloaded file.
Insert a floppy disk into your PC and follow the on screen instructions.

If you would like step-by-step instructions visit the how to page.

Re: Which file should I download?

Chappy,

In your answer to the above captioned subject, you reference the need for a "RAW disk image" to use in the virtuailzation systems (I'm interested in Parallels Desktop for Mac). What is a RAW disk image, and where might I find one for MS-DOS?

I'm impressed by your generosity, thank you.

Re: Which file should I download?

Hi Fred,
If you visit the MS-DOS download page (http://www.allbootdisks.com/download/dos.html) you will see a folder listing for Diskette_Images and img_files. You are looking for the img_files. These can be used as 'virtual' boot disks for things like VMWare and Parallels.

I really need to figure out a more user friendly description for these files!

Thank you for the kudos, I'm glad you enjoy the site.

Re: Which file should I download?

Hi im trying to delete vista off my computer and replace it with XP and the instructions to do that says i need to load MS dos. If i put the .img file on a separate CD without and Virtual disk managers, will it be able to run on its own? or will i need to get a program so that it will be able to run?

what if i dont have a diskette slot?

what if i want to make a usb boot flash? I dont have a diskette slot, but i need to boot into DOS.

Re: what if i dont have a diskette slot?

I recommend FreeDOS for this. It's MS-DOS compatible, and it runs from a CD. Getting DOS to run from a USB drive is difficult, and I have not been able to do so.

Re: Which file should I download?

My Original Bootdisk its inside the hard drive but i got the problem to restart my laptop and it cause of this windowsroots\sys32\hal.dll

please anyone can explain me this or help me to do something with it.... thnk you

Re: My Original Bootdisk its....

Take a look here[1]: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/ht/restorehaldll.htm
and here[2]: http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/pop.php?hal

I haven't tried the download so don't jump on me.

Try step 1 first. Borrow a Win CD if you haven't got one. Btw: it doesn't matter if you hit 'Y' or 'y', just don't answer 'N'=no to overwrite.

Re: Which file should I download?

How do I detect if I have ramdrive or not? I searched from ME's 'help'
window (which actually I've found less helpful overall), and found nothing.
I need an external source for a bootdisk because my IE keeps crashing,
with an 'Explorer has caused an error in MSVCRT.DLL ' message.
Any constructive response is appreciated.

Re: Which file should I download?

O.K. I'm confused...not sure if I should download any of these files -Question?? Will any of these allow me to restart my windows after "recent system changes" have incapacitated it? or is this just a tool to create a boot disk "in case" (in my case, "in case" has already happened, and all the caution, I learned using Win98 went out the windows (yah, I know it's a pun) when I started using WinXP Home.) It seemed so reliable. Also, just so you know - I have a Compaq Presario (secondhand) with all the recovery disks etc. but no manual to know how to use them and I am MOSTLY concerned that I recover the data currently residing on my harddrive. Thanks for any help and advice you can give me. Cyndi

Re: Which file should I download?

Hi,

I have a licenced copy of Windows XP that I want to install in Boot Camp on a mac, but I need XP SP2 - the install process apparently won't allow install and then running SP2.

Can I use the disk images here? Do I just put them all on a CD and run them like an install CD?

Thanks.
