Re: MS-DOS Boot Disk Download

That's because it's an iso file. This is not for floppys.

Re: MS-DOS Boot Disk Download

im sorry it just made me laugh when you put an iso on a floppy hahaha

Re: MS-DOS Boot Disk Download

You need a floppy drive in the pc where u have bootdisk disk data e.g bootdisk6.22 running that will then Prompt you to insert floppy disk in the drive so as to write the system files on it . v.i.z

1) Command.com
2) I/O.sys
3) drvspace.sys
etc. .
out of these files some of the files are hidden .see them using dir/a
That is after having these files on floppy will make the floppy surely bootable if data is virus free and the data written on the floppy is not on bad track(s) , sector(s). Enjoy the 286 system it's great.

Re: MS-DOS Boot Disk Download

Re: MS-DOS Boot Disk Download

okay, so this if fine if you have a windows box. I don't so how about providing a .img file as well?

Re: MS-DOS Boot Disk Download

But there is one! It's packed inside the .EXE and it's an .IMA file, same concept as .IMG files really. You can extract the .IMA from the .EXE using software such as WinRAR by right clicking and selecting Extract Here (WinRAR only). It will give an error extracting, but everything still works.

Re: MS-DOS Boot Disk Download

I am working on providing the actual .IMG file as well as a zip for all of these disks. This should hopefully be completed in a few weeks.

Re: MS-DOS Boot Disk Download

can you please tell me how to download and make a boot disk?what kind of disk do i need?can i use a cd-r disk?

Re: MS-DOS Boot Disk Download

And no, a CD-R probably would not work. If your to try though, might I suggest using a cd-RW, so as to not waste an entire CD on a 218k-919k file.

Re: MS-DOS Boot Disk Download

is the system file hal.dll? thats happened to me too. easiest way is to reinstall windows. ask your computer company to reinstall windows. depending on how your computer company does it they may need to buy another disc with windows on it. thats fine as long as the disc has Service Pack 2 or Service Pack 3 included (those are special files included with windows which irons out bugs in windows programming) so you dont have a hard time when you get the pc back. any help required please reply to my message. regards, kirbylover4000.

Re: MS-DOS Boot Disk Download

thanks for this page!

I know, it's free (of charge) and all, but may I second this opinion:

that would be most cool, really.

thanks again,

Re: MS-DOS Boot Disk Download

Those of us who went with an ASUS G2S with Vista Home Premium pre-installed do not have the luxury of having the ability to go to a command prompt with the included restore DVD. It boots like a normal Vista DVD would boot but doesn't have an option to do anything other than wipe the drive and reinstall factory settings. Which sucks because I really need to boot into a command shell and run bcdedit as the vista partition will not boot but the partition and all it's data is still visible from linux.

Re: MS-DOS Boot Disk Download

Windows Vista has no recovery console, no MININT and simply no other recovery functionality, except booting from the original DVD and starting the recovery mechanism from there. If this is your case, it really looks like you're stuck with that... I suggest you contact ASUS for a solution.

There is simply no other way to create boot disks other then using the original DVD.

Re: MS-DOS Boot Disk Download

I guess that this might solve your problem: http://www.svrops.com/svrops/articles/winvistare.htm

These are detailed instructions to add the Windows Vista Recovery Environment to the F8 Startup options. Tried it myself and works like a charm.

Note that these instructions are not for the faint-hearted or inexperienced but this is the supported way of getting this to work.

Re: MS-DOS Boot Disk Download

Re: MS-DOS Boot Disk Download

why are they all exe.'s ? I only want an image to use in virtual pc - I don't have a floppy disk!

Re: MS-DOS Boot Disk Download

The .exe files are self-extracting archives, which automatically write the boot disk to a floppy. I originally created these disks as a WinImage .exe to make it as easy as possible to create a boot disk. But VMWare/VirtualPC is huge now, so most people are using these disks for virtualization projects. This is one reason why I'm working on providing the .img file for each disk - but I've gotten sidetracked with work stuff!

In the meantime, you can download an ISO image of DOS, and attach that to your virtual machines as a Virtual CD-ROM disc.

FAIL

Re: MS-DOS Boot Disk Download

I'm trying boot a VM boot with the isos os DOS, but I receive a message error

No bootable CD, floppy or hard disk was detected.
To install an operating system, insert a bootable CD or floppy and restart the virtual machine by clicking the Reset button.

Re: MS-DOS Boot Disk Download

can i use the boot disk to wipe limpisre off and then use the boot disk to upgarde a machine to win 95 using a win 95 upgrade cd, if so what boot disk do i need

Re: MS-DOS Boot Disk Download

I know this is completely noobish- but I'm totally confused about writing and running the boot disks from CDs, given that the .exe files all request a floppy disk. Any pointers?

Re: MS-DOS Boot Disk Download

How to put the Image files on the disk?

Re: MS-DOS Boot Disk Download

Visit the how-to page for step-by-step instructions on how to create a bootable diskette.
